Participants will gather know how from football clubs about how they encourage local businesses to invest. It will provide an alternative way of exploring some deeper questions about the role of museums and how they should be organised. Is there a value in museums cultivating the kind of ‘club mentality’ that exists around football clubs, or would this conflict with their educative mission?
Football clubs, as well as being deeply engaged with their local communities, can also be aggressively commercial - what are the limits of what a museum would do in the name of encouraging support locally. We hope this session will provide a glimpse at another model the Museum sector can look at.
